Decorative Flake Garage Floors

Decorative flake is a finish choice within a coating system. When comparing samples, ask the installer to identify the base coat, flake blend, coverage, and protective topcoat rather than treating the flake itself as the whole coating.

Four choices to make with your installer

Color blend

View a physical sample in your garage lighting. Screens and photographs can shift colors. Compare the sample with your walls, cabinets, and the look you want at the garage entrance.

Flake size and coverage

Ask to see examples of the proposed chip size and coverage level. Put the chosen blend and coverage in the written scope so the finish is clear before installation.

Texture and cleaning

Discuss your traction needs and cleaning expectations. Ask about texture and any traction additive, including how they affect the final surface. Decorative flakes alone are not a slip-proofing guarantee.

Topcoat and maintenance

Request the topcoat name, cleaning instructions, and return-to-service schedule. Ask how repairs, wear, or future recoating would be handled and whether a repair might remain visible.

Compare epoxy and polyaspartic systems and include the finish specification when reviewing project costs.
